Friday Update, August 30

Intentional Discipleship is one of the five fundamental commitments of Victory Christian Academy. "We actively seek to facilitate the spiritual growth of our students through mentoring, teaching and modeling lives that are submitted to God's will and that are being transformed by His power." Such discipleship encompasses the hearts, the heads, and the hands of VCA students. God said, and Jesus confirmed, that the greatest command is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind. (Dt. 6:5; Luke 10:27)

As we seek to disciple VCA students, we know that what a person believes matters. We want our students (Christ's disciples) to embrace the truth about who God is. But if our students merely know truths about God, they will not "engage with and change the world" (our mission) because they will lack the passion that comes from a genuine relationship with and love for the Lord. So it is our aim that the truth of who God is will ignite a passion in our student's hearts for the one true God. When God is truly known and passionately loved, the hands cannot help but follow. Out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks and the body acts. (Matthew 12:34-35)

May God in His grace foster minds of truth that ignite passionate hearts that fuel transformed lives for his glory at Victory Christian Academy.

Did you catch the latest news? To put some FUN into fundraising, we’re hosting a Flamingo Flocking Fundraiser throughout September. Here’s how it works:

  1. If you find flamingos in your yard, don’t panic or make sudden moves. Also, hide your shrimp!

  2. Use the QR code on the flyer that is with the flock or visit this link to nominate someone you know and our specialists will come and move the flock to their new home.   Nominating and moving the flamingos is based on your freewill donation. A suggested donation is $25 to have the flamingos moved but if you feel inclined to give more or less that is fine.

  3. Our Flamingo Specialists will move them to the new location the same day.

  4. We want to hit a new house everyday so nominate quickly.

Want to avoid the flock? Buy Flamingo Protection for $50 at this link. We’ll make sure flamingos stay away from your yard.

Have fun, and feel free to nominate anyone who’d enjoy this—friends, coworkers, and neighbors. Thank you for helping our Seniors raise funds for their Puerto Rico mission trip!

September 16-20, South Campus Fall Spirit Week with Operation Christmas Child

Each fall we take one week out of the school year to focus on an international missions organization!   This year that week is Sept. 16 - 20. Each morning we will meet in the gym for a brief chapel service.  This year our theme is "Called Out" from 1 Peter 2:9, "When you know WHO you are, you know WHAT to do".  We will be talking about WHO we are in Christ and then WHAT we need to do!

During this week the South Campus will be collecting items for Operation Christmas Child.  The class with the most items collected at the end of the week will win a party with Mrs. Jett.  We have divided the items that Operation Christmas Child requests amongst all of our grade levels.  That list is attached to this email.  So start shopping and collecting now, but please do not bring any items in until the week of Sept. 16 - 20!

Friday, September 20:  Half Day dismissal for teacher training

Friday, September 27:  Fall Family Picnic, Dogwood Park, Chesterton 4:00pm - 7:00pm

Thursday, October 3: Picture Day

Tuesday, October 8:  Senior students will have the opportunity to take the SAT during their school day on October 8th at 8am.  This test is by sign up only and there are 25 seats available. The SAT is a globally recognized college admission test that’s accepted at all U.S. colleges. The SAT measures the reading, writing, and math skills that students are learning in high school. It lets students show that they have the knowledge they need to succeed in college and career.  The cost per student is $68.  Please contact Mrs. Thomae to sign up at mthomae@vcacademy.info.

Tuesday, October 15: All students in 10th and 11th grade will take the PSAT/NMSQT on October 15th at 8am.  Students will automatically be enrolled in the test. The State of Indiana pays the cost of this test for all Indiana students. The PSAT tests include reading, writing and language, and math. The test measures the student’s college and career readiness. It is part of the SAT Suite of Assessments. Students who take the PSAT/NMSQT in 11th grade may enter the National Merit Scholarship Program. Other agencies also use the PSAT to identify students who may be eligible for their scholarships. These scholarships amount to nearly $160 million every year.

Lunch: Please make sure that you are sending the proper utensils with your child each day for lunch.  If they need to warm something up in the microwave please send the food in a microwave safe container or with an extra plate.  Starting the week of August 26 there will be a 25 cent charge for needing a utensil or plate at lunch.
