Friday Update, December 20th
My husband has one rule when it comes to Christmas: “No tree before the turkey.” Every year, our girls and I try to convince him to bend that rule, but he always holds firm. Finally, this year, it happened—we got to put up our tree in early November. The Jett girls rejoiced!
Why is it that we’re so eager to get the holiday season started?
This year, I’ve found myself weary. I’m usually the first one to soak in this magical time with my kids, to cherish moments with friends and family, and to revel in the traditions that make it “the holidays.” But this year has felt different. I think it’s because I’ve been too caught up in the worldly expectations of the season—chasing perfection, ticking boxes, and meeting standards that, in the end, don’t matter. In doing so, I’ve lost sight of the heavenly miracle of Christ’s birth, and it has left me feeling worn out.
My heartfelt hope for you is that this Christmas, you’ll find joy, hope, and peace—not in the hustle and bustle, but in the beauty of God’s redemption plan. That gift, wrapped in swaddling cloths and laid in a manger over 2,000 years ago, is the true meaning of the season. Take time to reread the Christmas story and let the significance of that quiet, holy night in Bethlehem fill your heart. May it bring you joy that lasts forever.
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your precious Son and offering us the gift of eternal life. Help us to focus on what truly matters this Christmas. Guide our thoughts and actions to reflect the miracle of Your love. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
