Friday Update, March 7th
Obedience to God is a vital aspect of a believer’s walk with Him. It is a demonstration of our love, faith, and trust in His wisdom and sovereignty. In my journey of “attempting” to be obedient to God I have failed so many times, yet He has still loved me, sought me, and taught me many things.
Obedience is an act of love. Jesus made it clear that love for Him is reflected in our willingness to obey His commandments. True love is not just about words or emotions; it is expressed through action. When we obey God, we affirm our devotion and commitment to Him.
Obedience brings blessings. The Bible is filled with promises tied to obedience. Deuteronomy 28:1-2 says, "If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God." God desires to bless His children, but many of His blessings are unlocked through obedience.
Obedience demonstrates faith and trust. Faith is not just believing in God but trusting Him enough to follow His instructions, even when they don’t make sense to us. Proverbs 3:5-6 instructs us to "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." Obedience requires surrendering our own desires and trusting God’s perfect plan.
Obedience leads to spiritual growth. As we obey God’s Word, we grow in holiness and become more like Christ. Romans 12:2 urges us to "not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." Obedience helps shape our character, aligning us with God's will and refining us spiritually.
Obedience brings peace and joy. Living in obedience to God brings an inner peace that cannot be found elsewhere. When we walk in His ways, we avoid unnecessary troubles that result from disobedience. Psalm 119:165 says, "Great peace has those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble."
When we become a follower of Christ, we have to be obedient even if we struggle to listen and obey God. We struggle to obey and listen because we are sinners that are full of pride, are scared of rejection, or do not completely trust God. When we are obedient to God, He can use it for His good purpose.
