Friday Update Oct. 25th
As part of I Peter focus this year, last week our sixth through twelfth grade Life Groups were introduced to the "power of four" and challenged to partake in the "4 Day Challenge."
The power of four is based on a survey conducted by the ministry "Back to the Bible." They surveyed 400,000 people. Their findings were quite astonishing. The life changes were minimal for those who read the Bible three times or less a week. Everything changes, however, when someone reads God’s Word four or more times a week. As soon as God’s Word becomes a part of the majority of your week, here is what happens::
61% less likely to view pornography
68% less likely to have sex outside of marriage
57% less likely to get drunk
30% less likely to struggle with loneliness
407% more likely to memorize Scripture
228% more likely to share their faith with others
231% more likely to disciple others
The challenge laid out to the students was to read 1 chapter of the Bible four days out of the week (for school doesn't count). I encourage you to consider joining your child in this challenge. Discussing the same chapter together can be a meaningful way to connect with your child and can lead to vitally important conversations (Deuteronomy 6:4-9).
I firmly believe in the power of God's Word to transform lives because God has used it to change mine. The Bible is alive and actively works in the hearts of those who engage with it because God’s Word is the only book you read that also reads you! I'm already seeing the impact of this in the lives of our students, and I can only imagine what it might look like for those who rise to the "4 Day Challenge." My guess is that it will result in all of us looking more like Jesus, since Scripture points to Jesus (John 5:39-40).
I look forward to seeing the continued growth and transformation in your child's life as they dive deeper into the Word of God and God's Word takes root in their hearts.
For His Glory,
Richard Jett
