Friday Update, Nov. 22nd
The holiday season is here! Are you feeling the excitement? Does the thought of family get-togethers and shopping and cooking energize you? Or does just the thought of those things put a knot in your stomach? Do you find yourself struggling to be thankful this season?
The prophet Habakkuk found himself struggling to be thankful. Like most Old Testament prophets, his life was not one of ease. He argued and complained to God of the injustices he saw and the hardened hearts of the people he ministered to. He finally surrendered and said,
“Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines,
the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold
and there be no herd in the stalls,
yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation.”
Habakkuk 3:17-18
Habakkuk chose to be thankful in the Provider and not in the things that were, or were not, provided. It’s easy to be thankful for the things that God provides like good health, money in the bank to pay the bills, good relationships with family and friends. All great things and we should be thankful for them. But what happens when things don’t seem to be so great? A cancer diagnosis, a job loss, a strained or end of a relationship, when doubt and worry creep in and take away our joy? It is then that we must CHOOSE to be thankful to the Lord and see the circumstance as an opportunity to watch and see how the Provider will provide.
Speaking of being thankful, thank you to all that made our Day of Abundant Blessing a huge success! With a few more donations that came in after Friday, we exceeded our initial goal of $25,000 with donations of just over $35,000, not including our matching gift! Thank you to all of our VCA community, family and friends for your generosity and support! We look forward to investing these funds into our faculty, students and facilities. A special thank-you to Ashley Buckland and Kellie Ballah for helping to plan our week long celebration of VCA.
Wishing you all a very happy Thanksgiving!

Universal School Choice is going to take all of us! It is going to take a combined effort from schools, families, students, and community leaders across the state to let our legislators know that school choice is for ALL Hoosier families. One of the key pieces to these efforts is obtaining stories from parents across the state. Help us tell the story of universal school choice by completing the form at https://action.i4qed.org/a/across-finish-line-parent-questionnaire.
